EDP vs EDT vs Body Spray: Which Lasts Longer in India? (2026)

Short answer: an EDP (eau de parfum) lasts longest, usually most of a working day. An EDT (eau de toilette) fades in about half a day. A body spray or no-gas deo is a quick refresh that stays close to the skin for an hour or two. The gap between them comes from one number, the share of fragrance oil in the bottle. In Indian heat and humidity every type fades faster than the label suggests, so check the concentration and the price per ml before the discount.

Synonyms you will see on Indian listings: "perfume spray", "long-lasting perfume", "EDP spray", "deo (no gas)", "body mist" and "pocket perfume". An EDP that calls itself a "perfume" is still an EDP. A "no-gas deo" is a pump spray with no propellant, and it sits between a body spray and an EDT.

Why the same perfume fades faster in India

Most longevity claims come from brands testing in cooler, drier climates. Indian conditions work against fragrance in three ways:

1. Heat speeds up evaporation. The bright top notes (citrus, bergamot, fruity accords) burn off fastest. A citrus-heavy EDT can feel gone within an hour in May.
2. Sweat dilutes it. A commute on a crowded bus or metro washes out lighter concentrations first.
3. Dry skin holds scent poorly. Oddly, AC-dried office skin does not hold fragrance well either. Moisturised skin holds it better.

Read the table with concentration in mind. The EDT is less than half the price per ml of the EDPs, but it holds less oil, so you spray more and more often. Which one should you buy?

For office or a full college day: EDP

You want one application at 8 am that still reads at 4 pm. A 100 ml EDP in the ₹250–₹500 deal range is the sensible default. Choose woody, amber, musk or "aquatic/cool water" profiles for daytime. They are less loud than sweet gourmands in a closed AC room.

For hot, humid days outdoors: a fresh EDP, or an EDT you reapply

• Gas deos sold as "perfume". An aerosol can with propellant is a deodorant or body spray, whatever the title says.
• An MRP that looks inflated. Check the price per ml against the table above rather than trusting the discount percentage.
