It is absorbent enough to dry you in one pass, and thin enough to dry on a bathroom hook before the next shower. Pick 600 GSM+ only if you have sun, a balcony line or AC. What does GSM mean on a towel?

GSM is grams per square metre, the weight of one square metre of the towel fabric. More grams means more cotton loops packed into the same area. So a higher GSM towel is:

• slower to dry, because it holds more water.

How to check a listing's real GSM in 10 seconds

Marketplace listings sometimes inflate GSM. You can check the claim with the two numbers every listing gives you: size and item weight.

GSM = weight in grams ÷ (length in metres × width in metres)

Worked example: a standard 70 × 140 cm bath towel is 0.7 × 1.4 = 0.98 m². So:

• at 300 GSM it should weigh about 295 g,
• at 450 GSM about 440 g,
• at 500 GSM about 490 g,
• at 600 GSM about 590 g.
