How to Know My Jio Number: The Two Ways That Work (2026)

Jio documents exactly two ways to find your own Jio number: open the MyJio app and read it off the home screen, or give a missed call to 1299, which sends back an SMS carrying your number and your plan details. The 1299 route is the one to use when you cannot get into the app, because it needs no login, no data and no smartphone.

That is the short answer, and it is worth stating plainly because the internet is full of USSD strings claimed to return a Jio number. Below are the two official routes, then the handset-level fallbacks that work on any SIM from any operator when both are unavailable.

The two official routes

Missed call to 1299

Dial 1299 from the Jio SIM and hang up, or just let it ring. Jio replies with an SMS listing your Jio number along with your current plan and validity. It is toll-free.

This is the better of the two in practice. It works on a feature phone, it works with zero balance, it works with no data pack, and it leaves the answer sitting in your inbox where you can read it again next month instead of repeating the exercise.

Note that 1299 is the same line Jio uses for balance enquiry — the SMS it returns covers the number and the plan together, which is usually everything you were about to look up anyway.

The MyJio app

Install MyJio, sign in, and the Jio number sits on the home screen. No menu to dig through.

The catch is the sign-in. On a SIM with no active data, MyJio cannot authenticate, and the app is useless in exactly the situation where you most often need the number — a SIM that has just been inserted, or one whose pack has lapsed. If you are already signed in and the app opens, this is the fastest read there is. If not, use 1299.

When neither is available

These work on any SIM, Jio included, because they read the handset rather than Jio's systems.

Call a phone next to you. Ring any other handset from the Jio SIM and read the number off its screen. Crude, instant, and immune to every failure above. On a dual-SIM phone, check you are placing the call from the Jio slot.

Read it from Android settings. Settings → About phone → SIM status (the path varies by manufacturer — on many builds it is Settings → About phone → Status information → SIM status). The field is labelled "My phone number" or "Phone number". It reads what is written on the SIM, so it can come back blank or show an old number on a SIM that has been ported or re-issued. Treat it as a hint, not proof.

Read it from iPhone settings. Settings → General → About → Phone Number. Same caveat: it reports what the SIM and carrier profile hold.

Check WhatsApp. Open WhatsApp → Settings and your registered number is under your profile name. Reliable only if WhatsApp is registered on that SIM and you have not changed numbers since.

Send an SMS to someone. Text anybody and ask them to read the sender number back. Works on any handset, costs at most one SMS.

About the USSD codes you will see quoted

Search this question and you will find a scattering of USSD strings presented as "the Jio number check code". Jio's own help page for finding your Jio number lists the MyJio app and a missed call to 1299 — and nothing else. We are not going to reprint codes Jio does not document, because a code that silently returns the wrong thing, or nothing at all, wastes more of your time than the 1299 missed call takes.

Dual-SIM: the mistake that wastes the most time

Almost every "the code did not work" report on a dual-SIM phone comes down to the wrong slot. The dialler prompts for a SIM, the prompt gets dismissed on autopilot, and the request goes out on the other operator's SIM, which naturally has nothing to say about your Jio number.

Before you dial 1299, look at which slot holds the Jio SIM — Android's SIM settings screen names them — and pick that one deliberately at the prompt. If you are using the settings-screen method instead, read the field under the Jio SIM's entry, not the first one on the page.

New SIM, ported number, or a second number

A newly activated Jio SIM will answer 1299 as soon as the connection is live. Before activation completes there is nothing to query.

A ported-in number does not change, so the number you had on Airtel or Vi is the number you have on Jio. The settings screen may still be showing a stale value from the SIM's factory write — 1299 is the authority here, not the handset.

A second Jio number (a data-only SIM, a spare, a JioFi device) has to be queried from the handset or device holding it. MyJio can manage more than one number once each is linked to the account, but 1299 only ever reports on the SIM that dialled it.

Save it where you will find it next time

The reason this question gets asked repeatedly is that the answer never gets stored. Once 1299 sends the SMS, do three things with it: save the number as a contact named after the SIM ("Jio — spare"), write it on the SIM card's plastic holder if you still have it, and make sure your bank and UPI apps have the right one on file.

That last one matters more than the rest. A number you cannot recall is an inconvenience; a number your bank has wrong is a failed OTP at the wrong moment.
